![]() say the trench sequence or the early tsunami, which were shot on IMAX. Weirdly, the big fight scene in the Mediterranean village was presented in standard aspect ratio when I saw it, which robbed it of a lot of its impact vs. I think about 80% of the film is in IMAX, including some big showpiece sections, but then the remaining parts (the standard ratio scenes that are letterboxed on a 16:9 display) included a mixture of dialogue and action. I remember reading that a few years ago at least (things might have improved since then) the IMAX cameras made too much noise for isolating microphones to tune out, which is why they weren't used for quieter moments.Īquaman doesn't seem to have much rhyme or reason to which scenes are IMAX and which are standard ratio, though. Normally films have their big action setpieces shot on IMAX, and then regular film / digital cameras are used for dialogue scenes etc. ![]() I've grown used to aspect ratio switching in general, but it was very weird in Aquaman. ![]()
